Delegate Howell Ready For Chairmanship, Excited For Session
(Charleston, WV) – Mineral County Delegate Gary Howell said he is eager to move into his new role as Chairman of the House Government Organization Committee, an appointment which Speaker Tim Armstead announced.
“Having served on this committee as a member and as the Minority Chair, I appreciate this very important role afforded to me by the new leadership in the House and the people who elected me,” Delegate Howell said. “As Chair of one of the major committees in the House of Delegates, I look forward this session to working with my colleagues and advancing an agenda to help move this state forward and make the changes necessary to make this state an attractive business location.”
Delegate Howell has served on the House Government Organization Committee since he was first elected to the House in 2010.
“I am honored at the trust and confidence Speaker Armstead has bestowed upon me to serve as chairman of the Government Organization Committee,” said Howell. “The people of West Virginia have spoken and they are ready for change, and I will work as hard as ever to uphold the trust they have placed in this House of Delegates.”
The House Government Organization Committee addresses issues and bills generally relating to the executive department of state government, including: creation, consolidation and abolition, as well as duties and functions, of the state’s departments, commissions, boards, offices and agencies. It is also tasked with discussing and legislation related to the rule-making process
It was also announced that Raleigh County Delegate Lynne Arvon will serve as the Vice Chair of the House Government Organization Committee.
“Delegate Arvon has a wealth of knowledge and practical experience from her background and career in the medical field and will be an integral part of this committee and the leadership team in the House of Delegates and I look forward to working with her,” said Howell. “As with every position I have held in the past, I will work tirelessly to serve the people of West Virginia and my fellow legislators.”
In addition to serving in the Legislature, Delegate Howell is the owner of Howell Automotive, a small business located in Keyser, West Virginia and the National Chairman of State Auto Caucus – Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
The 60 day 2015 Regular Session of the 82nd West Virginia Legislature started on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015.
