Statement from House Education Chairwoman, Amanda Pasdon

“I look forward to listening to citizens and stakeholders express their views at this evening’s hearing on public charter schools. This proposed legislation will simply allow our local school systems to have the freedom to implement public charter schools.

We want to provide parents and students with a choice, and grant local flexibility to our county school leaders. Public charter schools serve as a unique learning environment that focuses on an individual student’s needs and creates collaboration between parents, teachers and students. This initiative will create greater authority and decision-making at the local level, and will give West Virginia the opportunity to join the 42 other states, plus the District of Columbia that have public charter schools.”
