Speaker to Call Members Back in Session
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, R-Clay, will contact members of the House of Delegates next week to call them back into session Monday, Sept. 12 alongside the regularly scheduled interim committee meetings.
The House adjourned to the call of the chair July 29 during the third special session of the second session of the 85th Legislature.
Both chambers during the session had adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 301, authorizing the body to adjourn, as needed, for more than three days, pursuant to Section 23, Article VI of the state Constitution.
A majority of House members, in a voice vote during a July 29 floor session, refused to concur with the Senate on House Bill 302, which would clarify the state’s abortion laws and requested a conference committee of five members from each chamber.
Conference Committee members must be announced during a session of the House of Delegates. Their meeting times, locations and meetings themselves are public information as those details are available. Other guidelines for disagreement and conference between the House and Senate may be found in the joint rules.
The House request for a conference committee was communicated to the Senate, but has not yet been received by the Senate, which adjourned July 29 to the call of the President.
